In the plain south of the first foothill of the churia range, lies lumbini, birthplace of Siddhartha Gautam, the Buddha. Lumbini is a sacred place for Buddhist from all over the world, standing on an equal footing with holy places sacred to other world religions. It is the place where queen Maya devi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautam. Who later enlightened himself and become lord Buddha. The founder of Buddhism. It is believed that lord Buddha walked immediately after his birth and took seven steps, under each of which a lotus flower bloomed Buddha was one of the greatest human beings, a man of Nobel character, penetrating vision, warm compassion, and profound thought who always preaches for the peace in the world. Lord Buddha is known as the light of asia.

Indian emperor Ashoka visited Lumbini in about 249 B.C and constructed four stupas and a pillar known as Ashoka stambha it is still there in Lumbini and can be seen in front of the Maya devi temple. Inside Maya devi temple the exact birth place of lord is preserved in its original, state, which is the main attraction of this place, Millions of people around all over the world come here to visit. Lumbini is listed in the world heritage Monument list by UNESCO. Here around lumbini there are a lot of stupas built by different countries.

Maya devi temple: This temple is supposed to be dedicated to Maya devi, who is Buddha’s mother, which seems natural as lumbini in famed as the birth place of Buddha. The temple was built during the 2nd century. Next to the temple there is a pool where Maya devi used to bath, now days the Japanese Buddhist federation is are constructing new temple at this site.

The crane sanctuary: A sanctuary is being built for the protection and breeding of endangered cranes in this area. It’s an interesting place to visit. Also the beautiful sacred garden area around the Ashoka pillar where you can spend time in peace relaxing and wondering around. Many countries have built monasteries in this area, its possible to walk around and visit them as you like.
